Wilson Combat Python Sight Upgrade

By Joe Gorman

Few gun writers were as happy as I was to hear the news of Colt producing Python revolvers again, back in 2020. The reintroduction of the Python meant an even stronger .357 Magnum with its classic lines retained. Good times!

After receiving our review sample of a Colt Python and shooting north of 1,000 rounds through it rather quickly, I was convinced Colt had done it right. One criticism of the 2020 Python, that was singled out by internet critics of the new Python, was the rear sight. Many felt they were a weak link as they could move under magnum recoil. I even noticed the rear sight had shifted to the right during one of my marathon 158gr .357 Magnum shooting sessions.

Fortunately, Wilson Combat, a company with a long history of innovation, quickly came to the market with replacement front and rear sights for the Python. (The Wilson Python sights fit 2020 Pythons and Anacondas only)

I ordered a 1034-SQ rear sight (Battlesight, adjustable, serrated blade, square notch). This hardened steel replacement sight comes with everything you’ll need to install the new sight, other than a 1/16 punch. The rear sight is fully adjustable and features a serrated rear blade to reduce glare. The rear blade is also radiused so as to not poke or wear though garments. Rather than a set screw to hold the blade in place like on the factory sight, the Wilson Battlesight uses a ball bearing lock on the windage and elevation adjustment screws. The rear sight never moved after being zeroed.

I also ordered a Wilson Combat green fiber-optic no-snag, serrated ramp front sight. This too came with everything you need to swap out the front sight. While I thought the factory red ramp was very visible for combat shooting, I wanted to try the green fiber sight as I know in low light my eyes pick up green better. True, enough, once mounted the green fiber optic was bright and clear on target. The quality Wilson replacement sights are tough and well made. While I hate the thought of the Python ever hitting the concrete, I know that for any carry gun there is a greater-than-zero chance that this could happen. It’s good to know that with the Wilson sights in place, the sights would still be in functional.
